February 28 Budget Update

I'm glad tomorrow starts a new month for the budget. lol

Kroger
Donuts (for the kids!)
8 Packages of Healthy Ones Lunch Meat

The donuts were $1, and the lunch meat was on sale for $1 each. I had eight 75¢ coupons, so it was only a quarter per package -- a great deal for lunches! My total out of pocket was $3.09.

Jewel
3 Pairs gloves for next winter
1 package Mac & Cheese
2 Sobe Waters
6 Crest Pro Health toothpastes
8 Del Monte fruit cups

The gloves are for the kids. They were on sale 3/$1, and considering how quickly we lose them, I thought that was a great deal! I had $1 off the toothpaste on Avenue, and $1.50 coupons. I used a winetag for the mac & cheese, and had $1/2 coupons for the fruit cups. My total was $6.87, but it was paid using a gift card, so no oop.

Jewel, again
8 packages of Ice Mountain bottled water
6 packages of Crest Pro Health Toothpaste

I had $1 off each toothpaste from Avenue, as well as $1.50 coupons. I used a winetag for the water, as well! My total was just $1.38, and I earned $8 for buying the water! This came off of my gift card, as well, so no oop. I also received another survey good for free french bread!

Jewel, yet again
1 Culinary Circle pizza
1 package Jewel brand shredded cheese
1 package tortillas
1 box Mac & Cheese
1 container Blueberries
1 container Raspberries
1 bag of Oranges
2.43# of bananas
2 bags of Fresh Express Salad

I used a $3 coupon for the pizza, five $2 coupons off produce (wine tearpads.... similar to a winetag), $1.50 on bananas when you buy two salads, and coupon for the mac & cheese. My total was $2.92, but again, I used my gift card, so no actual oop.

Final Jewel Transaction for February
4 Mug Root Beer twelve packs
4 Mt. Dew twelve packs
2 Sobe waters

I used winetags for the soda, and after the store promotion on soda, my cost was just $1.52 from my gift card, and I received a $10 catalina for buying the soda!

Where do I get the gift cards? I have friends and family members who will take things from my stockpiles. I normally insist no payment is necessary, especially from family, but often they'll leave me with something stating it's still a great deal for them, and helps with my coupon costs and my gas. So, I save up that money and when I have the minimum needed, I purchase a gift card to use during the month. Also, when I return glass bottles, the deposit money returned goes on a gift card, too. I already calculated that cost when I posted my out of pocket, so it made more sense to add it to a gift card than try to re-include it in my budget! Oh, and believe me when I tell you that for every holiday and birthday I always ask for gift cards! (My birthday is almost here, too!)

February 26 Budget Update

Yes, Jewel, again! This was a big trip for me, too.

6 Marie Callendar Frozen Meals
1 loaf French Bread
4 packages On-Cor Salisbury Steak
2 loaves Sara Lee Bread
1 Culinary Circle Pizza
8 boxes Mac & Cheese
1 package Cheetos (I LOVE Cheetos!)
2 Gallons Milk
2 two liters Soda
4 twelve packs of 8oz Ice Mountain water (also to donate to Damon's class)

I used a survey to get the french bread free, had free coupons for the Sara Lee bread, and a $3 coupon for the pizza (it was on sale for $3.99!), used a pasta wine tag for the mac & cheese, as well as a $10 winetag on the beverages, and $9 winetag good on any groceries! My total out of pocket was $5.69, and I earned $4 in catalinas for buying the water!

February 24 Budget Update

Jewel, again. I don't think I've been anywhere else this entire week! lol

10 Betty Crocker Warm Delights
10 Pillsbury Rolls
2 two liters Soda
2 Gallons Milk
3 Boxes Fruit Punch (donated to Damon's class to help replenish snacks!)

I used two $10 cats, earned previously, three 75¢/3 coupons on the rolls, and a $10 winetag. My total out of pocket was $4.41... one I'm pretty proud of because the three boxes of juice for on sale for 3/$7, and I paid less than that, plus got the other items!

February 23 Budget Update

I'm a few days behind... I've been much busier than usual trying to help with the school situation (as posted below), as well as working on Retire With Coupons!

10 Pillsbury Biscuits
10 Betty Crocker Warm Delights

After sale prices, coupons, and two $10 catalinas I had earned previously, I paid $2.22. I also earned a survey good for free bread, worth $2.49!

Let's help Mrs. Koch's Class!

On, Saturday, February 21st, a random act of violence affected Bent School in Bloomington, Illinois. A senseless act... a 15 year old broke into our school, vandalized a classroom, and started a fire. I thank God this occurred on a weekend, when no students were there, and although the only items lost were material items, I find it hard to grasp that someone could do this. And, I take it very personally, not only because it's where my children to go school, but because it was my son's classroom that was destroyed!

Mrs. Koch, their amazing 1st grade teacher, has lost all of her materials from 25 years of teaching, and our students lost all of their personal belongings, portfolios which were ready to come home to share with their families, text books, literary books, all of their supplies, including snacks and drinks.

A blog has been created to keep up to date on the restoration process, as well as donations needed. If you're in our local area, I ask you to please reach out and help with this project!

February 19 Budget Update

I only made one stop at Jewel today!

My first order consisted of ten refrigerated Pillsbury Grands. They are on sale for $1.25 each, and when you buy 10, you get a $10 catalina. Right in front of the rolls were coupons good for 75¢ off 3!

My total before coupons was $12.25. After my three coupons, my total was $10.25. Tax was just 13¢. I used my $10 catalina I earned from buying the soup earlier in the week, paid 38¢ out of pocket, and earned another $10 cat for buying the biscuits! Now that is a deal!

My second order included:
2 Gallons Milk
2 Orange Soda 2 liters
2 boxes Spaghetti
4 packages of chicken breasts (approx. 6 pounds of chicken!)

I used coupons on the beverages and pasta, and took advantage of the "fave 4" deal on the chicken. After all of the sale prices and my coupons, my total out of pocket was just $3.20.

Clarification about Eating Out

Hi, all. On occasion, we do go out to eat, but it's rarely on my dime, which is why you don't see many posts pertaining to restaurant costs! If someone gives me money to pay (my mom or even dh), or we receive money in the mail that wasn't expected, or birthday money, etc., we use that. So, I don't count it against my budget because I am not using my $150 budget. In retrospect, it might have been a good idea to keep track, but I'm just watching my own pennies, and if we're blessed with someone buying take out for us, or getting a bonus in the mail, that's how I treat it! Clarification clear as mud, right? lol

February 11 Budget Update

I picked up my special order today for Clare House! Because of the deals and coupons I had, I needed small items to use as "fillers" to roll my Catalinas! This was my haul:

48 Boxes of Popcorn
100 Cans of Soup

That's all for the pantry. But, in order to take advantage of the sales, and roll my Catalinas, I had to do 18 separate orders! So, I needed "fillers" on each order. This is what I purchased to ensure I had enough to use my Catalinas:

Steak Sauce
Bacon
3 Pork Chops
BBQ Sauce
2 packages of English Muffins (they were buy 1, get 1 free!)
BBQ Shake N Bake
3/4lb Ground Beef
2 Dozen Eggs

My total out pocket, FOR EVERYTHING, including the items for the food pantry, was only $6.53! And, I received three surveys which are worth free bread!! Although not all of this is from my items, I'm going to make it easy and just subtract the entire amount from my budget!

1 Gallon Milk

My total out of pocket was $23.81. But, I earned four $8 catalinas, actually making a profit of $8.19.

February 1 Budget Update

It's a new month! We're starting with $150 cash, again, but looking at this week's ads, we may hit that almost right away! As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I've been shopping crazily, and am now going to play catch up with receipts, so we'll all see how I'm doing at the same time! lol

I started by spending $66.50 on winetags. I know, it's a huge chunk of my budget, but it'll net me over $400 (yes, $400) on beverages, so it was an investment that I was willing to make... the winetags will work on soda, milk, and some juices, so with a family of five, it was a good opportunity to be able to stock pile a lot of items that we'll use over the next several months.

I did only one transaction today at Jewel:

Twelve 12 packs of Coke Products

The soda was on sale 3/$11, and for ever $20 you spent, you'd get an instant $5 off. By purchasing twelve, I earned the instant savings twice! Original price was $44 plus tax minus the instant $10 taking me to $34. I used a $3 catalina that I earned previously, and three $10 winetags (the above mentioned tags). My total was $1 plus tax of $2.39, for a grand total of $3.39 out of pocket! This is for twelve 12 packs of soda! Even with the cost of the tags, the cost is approx. 65¢ for each twelve pack! That's a great deal!!

Total out of pocket is $69.89!

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Hello!

Hi, everyone!!

It's already February 5th, and I know it's been several days since my last post. It's certainly not because I haven't been shopping, though. The deals have been in abundance, and I've spent an incredible about of time (and money!) shopping this week!

I have yet to sit down and figure out my receipts, so it'll be a surprise to all of us to see what I've purchased, what I've gotten, and if I have any money left for February (yikes!).

How are all of you doing? Several people emailed me at the beginning of January and said you wanted to take on this challenge, too! How's it working for you??

Kimberly
